Natural homemade facial mask – some tips on usage

Facial maskMaking your own homemade facial masks with the natural ingredients is not very hard, but there are some pointer to take note.

Homemade natural facial mask is easy to get harden after loss of natural moisture, easy to get contaminated and breed bacterias as it does not contain preservatives. Therefore it is not suitable to over produce at one time, it is best to use it immediately after.

Before using the mask, you can test out a mask by using it directed on your back of hand first to ensure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients.

Preparation before facial mask

You should cleanse your face and make sure to remove every trace of make-up before applying any kind of mask. Exfoliate your face when necessary and you will notice it works better on exfoliated skin.

Before applying mask, steam your face by using a hot towel and pat it gentle all over your face for 3 minutes to open up pores, then massage your face gently for another 3 – 5 minutes.

The right way to exfoliate

Many people mistakenly believe that exfoliating every time before mask can achieve smooth and elastic skin. In fact, this is unscientific, the top layer of the epidermis (Stratum corneum) provides the skin's natural protective function, to avoid dehydration of the skin, maintain a healthy skin's PH level. The life cycle of a normal skin cell (Stratum corneum) is 28 days, during which the death cells are replaced by fresh cells. Therefore we should only exfoliate once a month at most. Over-exfoliate will actually be scrubbing away the protective barrier of the skin.

Sequence of applying mask

When applying mask to your entire face, it should start off from your chin move upward and then outward. Avoid the area around your eyes and lips.

Leave mask to dry for about 20 minutes, use fingers to touch gently. Once the mask on your face does not feel sticky, lightly run your finger over the edge of the mask and start peeling off upward.

After facial mask

After peeling off the facial mask, you should use clean warm water to cleanse off the residues;  then, followed by cold towel to cover face for a while to ensure pores are closed before applying moisturizing gels.

Frequency of applying facial mask

In order to take maximum benefit of applying facial mask, we must know the appropriate frequency for different skin type. For those with acne,chloasma and senile pigment spots,  a facial mask can be used 1 to 2 times a week.  For others, it may be used twice a week, and for those who are exposed to too much outdoor sun, thrice a week  is recommended.

Nighttime is the best time to apply to do a face mask!!
