Colloidal Silver Research

Silver has been used as a germicide for thousands of years. In ancient Greece and Rome texts, including Pliny the Elder's great tome, Natural History, Book 23 (78A.D.) discusses the extraordinary wound healing capacity of silver slag as an ingredient in plasters. American settlers put a silver dollar in their milk or other liquids to delay spoiling. Around the turn of the century doctors prescribed silver nitrate for stomach ulcers.

German Obstetrician, Franz Crede, observed in 1884 that up to 79% of blind children in various orphanages and institutions were born to mothers who, at the time of the child's birth, had venereal disease. He found that a 1% solution of silver nitrate dropped into the eyes of newborns, reduced the incidence of VD-caused blindness to less than 0.2%.

In the early 1900's an antibacterial solution called Colloidal Silver became the medication of choice of medical practitioners. It proved to be enormously effective against infectious organisms and extremely safe to use without the negative side effects associated with drugs.   The quicker, more specific and fast acting man made antibiotics became prevalent in the 1940's.  Colloidal Silver became increasingly expensive during the precious metals crisis during the depression, when, among other reasons, the cost became prohibitive about $100 per ounce in 1930 dollars.  Then pharmaceutical companies developed antibiotics as we know them today. Silver took a back seat.  However, as usual, when we deviate from nature unforeseen problems develop.

The FDA states colloidal silver is a pre-1938 "drug." It may continue to be marketed due to this grandfather-clause (Sept. 13, 1991 letter received from Consumer Safety Officer, Harold Davies, FDA.) In effect, the FDA has no jurisdiction regarding a pure mineral element. It is very important to note that the FDA and FTC are aggressively pursuing companies that state benefits without substantial "scientific research" to back up claims. This equates to a "Witch Hunt" to suppress the obvious benefits we now receive from sources containing colloidal silver.

British Medical Journal, Feb. 1923. "Colloidal Preparations of Silver in Pharmacy" Pure Silver is entirely non-irritant. In tests, at very high dilution rates, exceeding two hundred thousand to one, it was shown that the rapidly exerted disinfectant action is of considerable therapeutic value.

Robert O. Becker, M.D., author of "The Body Electric and Crosscurrents," While studying regeneration of limbs, spinal cords and organs in the late 1970s, discovered that silver ions promote bone growth and kill surrounding bacteria. The experiments concluded that silver works on a wide range of bacteria, without any known side-effects or damage to the cells of the body. Extensive research into the curative properties of silver has been conducted for many years at the Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y. under the direction of Dr. Becker. He found that silver caused cells to differentiate and redifferentiate in the process of regenerative healing. "What we had actually done was rediscovered the fact that silver killed bacteria, which had been known for centuries...when antibiotics were discovered, clinical uses for silver as an antibiotic were discarded" Becker said in a 1995 interview with Bio/Tech News.

Critics of colloidal silver will often warn that regular consumption of colloidal silver might lead to Argyria , a bluish/ grey discoloration of the skin. Dr. Bob Beck debunks this statement as a scare tactic by pro-pharmaceutical interests. Dr Beck has indicated that Argyria is caused by silver compounds, such as silver nitrate, silver sulfate, silver sulfadiazine, etc., and not micro-particles of pure elemental silver.

Dr. Carl Moyer, chairman of Washington University's Department of Surgery received a grant in the 1970's to develop a better treatment for burn victims. Dr. Harry Margraf of St. Louis, as the chief biochemist, worked with Dr. Moyer and other surgeons to find an antiseptic strong enough yet safe enough to use over larger areas of the body. Dr. Margraf reviewed 22 antiseptic compounds and found drawbacks in all of them. He noted that many of these antibiotics were ineffective against a number of harmful bacteria, including the biggest killer in burn cases a greenish blue bacterium called Pseudomonas acruginose. In extensive trials silver proved to be the most effective treatment and is currently used in all major bum centers in the United States. "Silver is the best all-around germ fighter we have."

Science Digest March 1978." 83:57-60 "Our mightiest Germ fighter," " Thanks to eye-opening research, silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine. An antibiotic kills perhaps a half-dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills some 650. Resistant strains fail to develop. Moreover, silver is virtually nontoxic. Says a pioneering silver researcher, Dr. Harry Margraf, of St.Louis: " Silver is the best all around germ-fighter we have."

University of California, Los Angeles, Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, conduced tests in 1988 regarding the use of silver solutions as disinfectants. Antimicrobial & antibacterial effects were demonstrated in 10 5 concentrations per milliliter of the following: neisseria gonorrhea, gardurella vaginalisis, streptococcus pyogenes, staphylococcus aureus, candida albicans, candida elobata, m.furfur, salmonela typhi..

Larry C. Ford, M.D., UCLA School of Medicine, conducted laboratory tests in 1988 that showed destructive bacteria, virus and fungal organisms are killed with in minutes of contact with silver. Colloidal silver co-mingles with the blood and enters the cells to seek out and destroy harmful organisms and it suffocates them six minutes or less after the initial contact. This phenomenon was demonstrated in tests at UCLA Medical Lab.

Dr Keith Courtney author of "Colloidal Silver the Hidden Truth" explains colloidal silver consists of microscopic clusters of pure silver held in suspension in distilled water by an electric charge. He states colloidal silver is resistant to acids in the stomach and able to destroy "unfriendly" bacterial, viral, yeast, and fungal infections while neither adversely affecting the large and small intestine or the "friendly" bacteria that we require.

Michael Biamonte, C.C.N. "A Modern Holistic Protocol for Lyme disease that works!" "The Biamonte Protocol The protocol that I have developed comes from several years of research. I have worked with a many Lymes patients. Many of them came to me due to their antibiotic treatments causing Candida. I have found Mild Silver protein to be a very effective alternative to antibiotics in the treatment of Lyme disease. Dept. of Health & Human Services (NIH) and cancer center laboratory test results, regarding Lymes disease."-1997 NYC, MTB Management, Inc.

Department of Heath and Human Services, Rocky Mountain Laboratories, & Fox Chase Cancer Center, in 1995, discovered that organisms associated with the causing the symptoms of Lyme Disease ( Borrelia burgdorferi & b hermsti), were tested with colloidal silver in concentrations of 15 PPM And 150 PPM. They demonstrated that no live spirochetes of either borrellia burgdorferi (B310 or b hermsti (HS-1) survived after 24 hours of exposure, in the Rocky Mountain Labs study.

Temple University, School of Medicine. February 2, 1995 "Preliminary studies on your silver preparation (1500 PPM) show it to be effective in inhibiting and killing strains of Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans in-vitro. Four strains of C. Neoformans were tested and they were killed by the preparation at 150-300 PPM. The growth of these strains were inhibited at a concentration as low as 0.3 PPM. Three strains of C. Albicans were tested and they were killed by the preparation at between 46 and 93 PPM. Growth was inhibited at between 0.7 and 1.4 PPM. Additional studies should be done to evaluate in-vivo effectively."

USES: 1/2-1 tsp. daily for one week, or when you feel it is necessary; adjust the dosage proportional to the average weight of 150 pounds. Chronic symptoms: consider 2 tsp. daily. Purify water: 1oz per gallon of water- wait 6 minutes before using it.  Natural food preservative: 1/4 tsp. per quart.
